If you’re looking for some music to spice up your time in Westport, The Cove is the place for you to set yourself down. We bring in the best we can find and keep a healthy mix on rotation. From Blues to Jazz, Rock to Folk, Country to Bluegrass, Soul to Funk, we love it all. In the warmer months, larger performances and full band shows take place on our Lounge stage while solos, duos and small groups play to the patio crowds. When it gets cooler, all shows happen in the Lounge.

Unfortunate news…co-lead singer Jamie Campbell of You’ve Got a Friend has suffered a heart attack! We are sending our heartfelt love and thoughts to this great man and singer RIGHT NOW! We will miss Jamie’s voice on Nov.22…

The “show” must go on however. In lieu of the latest news, we are working with Miss Emily right now and hope to have an update for you in the next couple of days about a show with her that will see her even more front and centre. In the meantime, if you haven’t received a phone call from us yet about this change, we will be calling you. Please spread the word and tell your friends! This will be an amazing show with incredible talent in the band and some of your favourite Blues and Soul tunes, some Carole King and James Taylor tunes as well as some Miss Emily originals! Thanks for your understanding and support! There will be some true magic in this show!

YOU’VE GOT A FRIEND: A Musical Tribute to CAROLE KING and JAMES TAYLOR feat. MISS EMILY

Such as successful band, we just have to have them back, again! It’s hard to find the time now that Miss Emily is so busy! “You’ve Got a Friend” is a classic James Taylor/Carole King show made up of a collection of Kingston area musicians, all with an incredible depth of musical talent and experience, as well as a great love of James Taylor’s and Carole King’s music.

Miss Emily came across her mother’s copy of Carole King’s Tapestry album when she was nine years old. It changed her life forever, as a major inspiration for her fifteen years of work as a full-time singer and songwriter.

Doug Reansbury is a veteran of the pub and folk festival circuits since the late 1970’s. He has a smooth, articulate guitar style that has seasoned over time. A stickler for sound, Doug tries to envelope the audience in a warm blanket of sound.

Jamie Campbell is a local singer-songwriter who has played for over 20 years with local original vocal trio Fireweed, as well as toured and written with Quebec artist Roch Voisine during his heydays in the 80s and 90s.

Bass player Zak Colbert was born in Buffalo, New York and is a self-taught musician who has toured with various show bands in the 70s and 80s, recorded with local artists Georgette Fry and Blue Monday and has completed many other studio sessions with local artists. He has also taught and coached music at his home, Renaissance Music and at St. Lawrence College.

Ken Hall is a keyboard-playing staple of the music scene in Kingston since the 1970s. Ken has performed with various artists, including Emily Fennell, Georgette Fry, Cliff Edwards, Jenica Raine, Dan Aykroyd, Laura Smith and Blue Monday.  Ken also has extensive recording experience with many  local artists.

Drummer Duncan Holt is the owner and engineer at Concept Audio, a major Kingston-based recording studio. Duncan has toured and played with local band “The Rain Kings” for years and has extensive experience playing with and producing local bands.

Sax player James Wannamaker has been a first call player in Kingston and Eastern Ontario for a few years now. He is a Humber College music grad and now teaches at Ardens Music Kingston. He is fluent in everything from Funk to Soul to Jazz to Blues to Pop and Bop performing with many great bands over the years such as Jenica Rayne, Funktion Junktion, Pico De Gallo, Sugar Sauce, Georgette Fry and Soul Survivors. James can been seen the second Tuesday of each month at Olivea’s with his jazz band the Downtown Trio featuring Sean Jensen on drums and Noah St. Amand on bass (Turpin’s Trail!).

“You’ve Got a Friend” covers the music from Carole King’s famous Tapestry album, as well as many of James Taylor’s classic songs from throughout his extensive career.

BLUES ON THE RIDEAU @ THE COVE INN, WESTPORT ANNOUNCES 2019/20 LINE-UP

Choose The Blues Productions in co-operation with The Cove Inn, Westport is pleased to announce the 2019/20 LINE-UP for Blues On The Rideau @ The Cove – our 15th year!

BOTR @ The Cove is now recognized as one of the premier Blues Series in the country featuring some of Canada’s best Blues, Soul and R&B artists (all Juno, Maple Blues Award, Western Canadian Music Award and/or Quebec Lys Blues Award winners/nominees). The Cove venue is friendly and intimate located in a beautiful 140 year old country inn in one of the most scenic villages in eastern Ontario – Westport – located on the shores of Upper Rideau Lake on the historic Rideau Waterway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) – only a 1.5 hour drive from Ottawa, 45 minutes from Kingston, 2.5 hours from Syracuse, 3 hours from Toronto and Montreal.

There are 12 shows this season including three 2 Night Stand – Hogtown Allstars in October, Samantha Martin in November and Jack de Keyzer in January and a December show with MonkeyJunk as well! All shows take place from 7-11 pm. The ticket price increases – the first price increase in 5 years – $70 + HST. That includes a delicious full course buffet dinner, dancing, door prizes and a chance to win 2 Grand Prizes at the end of the season. A portion of proceeds from each show go to support different local charities. To date $74K has been raised for the Westport community and the goal is to raise over $5K this season.

POLICY FOR 2019/20

FOR CANCELLATIONS, REDUCTIONS OR NO SHOWS TO RESERVATIONS FOR

BLUES ON THE RIDEAU SHOWS

 

You will be required to give your credit card number plus phone number and/or email address when you make your reservations.

 

Your card will not be charged at the time of reservation. You pay the night of the show.

 

You have until one week (7 DAYS) prior to the show to cancel or change the number of spots you have reserved for and/or your rooms – at no charge.

 

The Cove will also continue its policy of calling or emailing everyone who has reserved in advance one week prior to the upcoming show as a reminder.

 

If you do not notify The Cove that have to CANCEL or REDUCE the number of reserved spaces on your reservation AT LEAST ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE SHOW – or if you are a NO SHOW the night of the Show – then YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL BE CHARGED THE FULL AMOUNT for the number of spots you have reserved.

 

However – understanding that sometimes unforeseen things come up at the last minute which can cause a cancellation – and in the spirit of good will – if this happens we will CREDIT you the full amount that your card has been charged FOR A FUTURE SHOW in 2019/20 (on a space available basis – Advance Reservation still required). We will  do this on a ONE TIME BASIS ONLY..After that, if it happens again, your card will be charged and there will be no credit for a future show.

 

We are introducing this Policy due to the large number of last minute cancellations and No-Shows we have experienced on BOTR nights over the years. It is simply not fair to the people who would like to attend the Show but have been turned down because we have a full house reserved only to find on the night of the show that there are extra spaces because of late cancellations and No-Shows. And the loss of revenue from this is not fair to Choose The Blues Productions or The Cove Inn who have to cover all the fixed expenses regardless.

 

Bottom line: If you aren’t SURE you can make the show – or if you aren’t sure some of your party can make the show – then CALL AND CANCEL AT THE LATEST ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE SHOW  – or your credit card will be charged.

Fair? More than fair we think. Thank you for your understanding.
